The top 10 reasons to work in IT:
- I love living the Revenge of the Nerds
- It’s a nice way to avoid the social and personal stresses that go with upward mobility
- It’s the satisfaction – every time I finish the re-install and reboot cycle I feel I’ve learnt something new and contributed in a meaningful way to my colleagues, my community, and my culture.
- Between the heat, the darkness, the double doors, and the noise, working in the data center is like returning to the womb every day.
- I’m hoping to use the contacts I make working on the help desk to break into top management and show all those pretty party people who ignored me in high school who I really am.
- I just love working with new technology – new challenges, new patches, new racks to install everyday.
- I love having that pager on my belt – it makes me feel, you know, manly.
- “Down, not Across” – IT just makes sense
- I love the travel – in my last job I spent six weeks training people in Lahore, now I’m looking forward to visiting Poland.
And the number one reason for for working in IT?
- It’s the babes! stupid.
If this site has seemed a bit erratic during the last couple of days, it’s because I’ve change web hosting companies (lower price, actual tech. support, more disk space & up to date versions of Perl, PHP, MySQL, etc.).
Looks like the new dns info has mostly propagated, so things should be back to normal.
The 100 Most Unexpected TV Moments:
1 NEWHART SERIES FINAL: “Dick” wakes up and says, “Honey, you won’t believe the dream I just had.” Then a light cames on and it Emily Hartley (Suzanne Pleshette), from his classic 1970s series, The Bob Newhart Show.
Fair enough, but I still like the revelation that Johnny Carson was paying Larry, Darryl, and Darryl’s gas bill…

The 100 Most Unexpected TV Moments:
22 NO JACK KENNEDY: During the 1960 Debates, Vice-Presidential candidate, Rep. Senator Dan Quayle says he has as much experience as JFK did when he ran. Dem. Senator Lloyd Bentsen responds, “you are no Jack Kennedy.”
During the 1960 Debates… — I suppose the ineptitude of tvland.com’s proofreaders is not totally unexpected.
The 100 Most Unexpected TV Moments:
28 THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER: On Star Trek, Dr. McCoy goes through a time portal and changes history. Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock travel back to restore order, and a character played by Joan Collins must die.
… Joan Collins must die — when it’s put that way, the ending doesn’t seem at all tragic.
The 100 Most Unexpected TV Moments:
76 WILLIAM SHATNER SINGS ROCKET MAN: William Shatner–at his out-of-control, lost-in-the-70s best–performs an interpretation of Elton John’s hit Rocket Man at the Science Fiction Film Awards.
Shatner’s performance was not at all unexpected — it just showed a horrible lack of judgement by those who decided William Shatner performing “Rocket Man” was a good idea.
The 100 Most Unexpected TV Moments:
98 NEW BATTLESTAR GALACTICA SEASON SHOCKER: In the season one finale of Battlestar Galactica, Lt. Sharon “Boomer” Valerii, is revealed to be a Cylon (the enemy robots), and shoots Commander William Adama.
What was unexpected about the new Battlestar Galactica is it turned out to be actually worth watching. Also, Lt. Sharon “Boomer” Valerii, was revealed to be a Cylon at the end of the miniseries.
