  1. I was a BIG Thomas Dolby fan. Nice to see still includes the Magnus Pyke sample when he performs the song. Sadly Dr. Pyke has long since shuffled off this mortal coil.

Piece of trivia: Thomas Dolby was in part responsible for the infamous Nokia ringtone. The Nokia tune was originally a few bars from Gran Vals, written in 1902 by the Spanish classical guitarist and composer Francisco Tárrega. Nokia chose it mainly because the composer was long dead and there were no royalties to pay. The next problem was how to make the tune play nicely on a phone. Enter Mr. Dolby…

By the late 1980s Thomas Dolby was becoming tired of the music industry and sought new ways to earn a crust. So created a “dot com startup” in Silicon Valley. As part of this business, he wrote software that could be used to reproduce a polyphonic synthesised tune in a handheld device. He sold it to Finnish phone giant Nokia for an undisclosed sum, in the early 1990’s.

Today he lives back in Old Blighty, and is creating music again in a studio on-board his converted 1930s lifeboat, moored on the Suffolk coast.

Also, the Youtube clip won’t play from this site – well not here in the UK anyway. But it will play directly from Youtube:-

    🙂

  2. Classic example of media corporation arrogance. A message that appears where the video should be reads: “This video contains content from Sony ATV publishing. It is restricted from playback on certain sites. Watch on Youtube”

I don’t condone hacking. Same time, I cant help a wee smirk whenever I read about Sony being hacked and thrashed to bits! Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch of people IMO! lol 😉
